Asian double eyelid surgery is the world's most requested cosmetic procedure. Dr. Lamb's techniques are designed to enhance Asian beauty by creating an eyelid fold while maintaining the integrity of the Asian appearance. Double eyelid surgery can vary from a simple suture to a more complex procedure depending on the individual requirements of the patient.

During the pre-operative consultation, you will be examined and asked questions concerning tear production, use of contact lenses, eye drops and your expectations for surgery. Dr. Lamb will examine your eyes and eyelids to exclude any problems that could affect a good functional result.
Many factors have to be considered in the planning for successful surgery. The height of the brow and the position of the eyelid crease are critical to your result and these will be discussed and demonstrated during the consultation. The prominence of the eyes, whether it is due to the position of the eyes, excess fat or excess skin must also be considered to achieve the desired cosmetic result. Epicanthic folds, the fold of skin at the inner corner of each eye are often prominent in many Asians and this can be altered if desired. Changes to this area can also be demonstrated during the consultation.

In double eyelid surgery Dr. Lamb first marks the individual lines and creases on the lids in order to keep scars as invisible as possible within natural folds. The incision is made, then excess fat, muscle and loose skin are removed using CO2 Laser. The use of laser greatly reduces swelling and bruising. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimising the visibility of any scar.
In lower eyelid surgery, the incision is usually made inside the lower eyelid. Excess fat is removed using the CO2 Laser, leaving no visible scarring. The lower eyelid skin usually requires tightening and this can be done using Erbium Laser. This procedure is also very common because of the prominence of fat in the lower lids.

This is true drooping of the upper eyelid. Weakness and stretching of the upper eyelid muscle causes the lid margin to sit at a lower than normal level. When severe, the pupil can be partially or totally covered. This will obstruct vision and repair of this muscle can be performed at the same time as the double eyelid procedure. As this problem is functional the surgery will attract a benefit from your private insurance and Medicare.

| Down turned eyelashes is a common problem with Asian eyuelids and can cause
eye irritation as well as visual obstruction. Surgical repair of this
problem, combined with a double eyelid procedure, improves function and
appearance.

A certain degree of swelling and bruising is normal. Cold compresses, as well as head elevation when lying down will enhance healing and relieve discomfort. Dr. Lamb will prescribe medication for discomfort.
For up to one week following surgery, your eyes may feel sticky, dry and itchy. Eye drops and ointment will be prescribed.
Private insurance and Medicare do not cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. If vision is affected, if ptosis is present or if there is deformity of the eyelids, surgery is likely to attract a benefit.
